Abortmotstandarar i Russland tar etter USA/ Russia adopts anti abortion strategies from the USA

Sjå artikkel i NY Times.

Russia was the first country in the world to introduce abortion on demand in 1920. It also has the highest abortion rate according to UN data at 53.7 per 1000 women in comparison to 15.2 in Norway. Traditionally there has been a low use of and scepticism towards contraception. Abortion has also been free of charge in comparison to contraception.

Russia has a high death rate, low fertility rate and also low immigration and is now facing a problem that Putin has adressed in the Duma.  This leads to a change in climate when it comes to abortion and there are suggestions trying to decrease the access to abortion. Suggestions like forbidding emergency contraception, 48 hour waiting period, having to see the fetus in the ultrasound etc. See this article in the NY Times.

Abortion democracy

See this interesting documentary comparing the situation in South-Africa where they got one of the more liberal abortion laws in the world in 1997 granting women abortion on request in the first trimester and also letting nurses and midwives perform abortion to the situation in Poland who restricted their abortion law in 1994. Even though abortion is almost banned within the legal framework today it is easier to obtain a safe abortion in Poland than in South-Africa.
